Has crippling self-doubt got you yet?

29/5/2020

When you start a business, there will be challenges that pop up along the way that you don't anticipate. One of the biggest challenges that catch people by surprise is crippling self-doubt.

This feeling of like, I'm not good enough, I'm not worthy, who am I to be doing this?
I say crippling self-doubt because everyone expects there will be some degree of doubt. It's the magnitude of it that can take you by surprise.

But self-doubt is a normal part of the entrepreneurial journey and here's why:Inside of us, we have two parts. One part is full of self-doubt and anxiety and fear and doesn't want to take any chances. That part wants to keep you safe. And then there's the other part of you that wants to strive, reach out and go for that higher potential.

These two parts are in conflict and each has its place Who doesn't want a part that's going to keep you safe? That's a good idea, actually. But then who doesn't also want to reach for potential?

Be aware that those two parts exist inside of you, they're not going to go away, but learn how to tap into the most appropriate part for the situation at hand.

When you need to show up in your business, when you need to provide, when you need to serve a client you're going to tap into the part of you that knows how to show up, that knows how to stay focused and knows how to get the job done. The one that's got the confidence, charisma, drive, and energy. At other times, when more caution is needed, you'll want the safer part of you to help out.
Both parts of you are very acceptable and need your love and attention. Just remember to tap into the part of you that's going to serve you best.

With love,
Melissa

3 Steps to moving through the discomfort and feeling better

22/5/2020

I've decided that whatever I'm feeling is ok.

I've been riding the emotional rollercoaster the past few weeks for various reasons and like most people, when I'm down, the self-doubt and negative talk kicks in. It doesn't feel nice and nobody wants to stay there for long.

But life will always present uncomfortable times and the point is not to avoid the discomfort but to utilise it.

Most people feel discomfort, immediately think it's wrong, or there must be something wrong, or they are wrong. They get stuck in the discomfort as if it's a solid wall, and look for ways to go around the wall, usually in some form of escape like alcohol, too much TV, overworking etc.

A better approach is to recognise there's a door in the 'wall of discomfort', look for the message in the discomfort (key to the door), process what's underlying the discomfort (open the door) and walk on through to something new.

Processing discomfort or dissatisfaction requires three steps:
  • honestly evaluating the situation
  • transforming the beliefs and behaviours that support the current situation
  • implementing the changes needed

When you learn to view your discomfort as an opportunity for growth rather than a dead-end, it gets easier to accept all kinds of feelings, not just the good ones. I'd rather grow through the process than spend my life avoiding. Funnily enough, I feel better already just knowing this.

How do you feel about this?

With love,
Melissa

PS I'll be talking more about the three steps on socials, so make sure you tune in to one of my groups - details for both are below if you're not already a member.

PPS If you're ready to begin a journey of transformation to more joy and ease, less getting stuck, I have 2 coaching spots opening up for June. Let's jump on a call for a chat and make a plan that works for you.

Keep the feel good momentum even when you are failing

And I said to her, “that’s fantastic! I hope you're acknowledging yourself and the steps you’re taking towards your goals”. And she said, “yeah, no, not really. I'm just, you know, I do that and then I get to the next thing and then the next thing and the next thing”.

Sound familiar?

Do you fail to acknowledge yourself and the progress that you’re making?

Are you celebrating yourself every step of the way? The big achievements, the tiniest little things, and even the times when you're not really achieving in the way that you‘d hoped?

What if you try something and you fail? Are you celebrating the fact that you tried? Are you celebrating that you gave it a shot, that you got past your fear and found the courage and tried it? So it didn't work out. You learnt something, you are now wiser on how not to do it and you can celebrate yourself for trying.
Acknowledging yourself every step of the way, noticing your progress, makes you feel good.
Progress makes us feel good. It makes us feel happy. It's a win-win, you feel better about yourself and you are naturally going to take more action as a result.
Here’s to feeling good and taking inspired action. With love,
Melissa

How good does $100,000 feel?

1/5/2020

Last year in 2019, I learned a crucial lesson that I think is pretty relevant to anybody who's not feeling 100% fulfilled and excited about their life or their business right now.

I spent most of the year chasing goals that were exciting and compelling, but they weren't really feeding my soul. They were kind of empty in a sense that the goal itself wasn't lighting me up from the inside out.
The thing is there's always an underlying FEELING to any goal that you have.  That feeling is more important than the goal itself.
Let's say you want to build a six-figure business. What's more important than the goal of earning or making a $100,000 is the feeling that you believe that it's going to give you.  So what is that for you?

Is it freedom? Is it security? Is it comfort? Do you think it's going to bring you a sense of ease or well being?  Take a moment to identify for yourself what the feeling is because when your goal is driven by the feeling that you want to achieve rather than the thing that you want to have, you'll find it so much easier to stay inspired and motivated.
A $100,000 for the sake of having $100,000 if you don't even know what you're going to do with it or what that's actually going to bring you, feels a bit soulless. It's an empty goal and then you'll find that it becomes a stressful target rather than an inspiring thing to reach for.

Make sure you can answer these questions for each goal you have.
1. Does this really light me up from the inside out?
2. What feeling is it that I'm aiming for with this goal?

With love,
Melissa

PS If you need help with clarity around your goals and finding the courage to go for it, reach out to me for a chat about how you can take positive steps forward.
