Not many people really follow their dreams. My dad isn’t one of those people and his latest adventure is gifting me and many others a real dose of inspiration and kick-in-the-butt, no more excuses motivation.
A few days after his 70th birthday, my dad packed up his bike, flew to Europe and began the journey of a lifetime. One bicycle, one tent, saddlebags and an old guy with a dream of adventure.
He didn’t let his excuses or fears, of which I could come up with quite a few, stop him from making it happen. In March 2019 he set off from Cologne, Germany and over the next 8 months, he cycled over 15000kms all the way to the border of China. When he got there, he turned around and rode back.
Every day of those 8 months I had to keep my own fears at bay, thinking of all the potential disasters and what-ifs. But if there’s one thing my dad has demonstrated to me time and time again, ‘if you want to do something in your life, just do it’.
Forget about all the naysayers, the doubters and your own hesitations. Life is short and you will regret not taking your adventures and achieving your goals.
Last weekend on November 9th, 2019, he arrived back in Cologne, Germany to complete his adventure. I’m so proud of him and once again inspired to stop wasting time thinking about my dreams, and go and make them a reality.
Have you been waiting for something? Putting your dreams on the back burner? Do you have a bunch of reasons why you can’t do something?
Take a good look at what you want to achieve in this lifetime and make your plan of action now. If my 70-year old dad can do it, so can you.
Here's a pic of dad last weekend at the finish line, being welcomed home by some family members.
